Hey Everybody! Yesterday I went to the Lumiere Festival in London! It was a great evening full of spectacular and colourful lights despite the bitter cold and even a little snowfall.
Recently, my camera broke and it had me a little sad, as I could no longer take any decent pictures. But my knights in shining armour, Mum and Sister treated me to an early birthday present which was a new camera! (thank you so so mucchhh xxxx)
The camera they got me is a Canon PowerShot SX400IS and I feel like the quality of my photos have stepped up massively compared to the Samsung WB100. I'm so over the moon with this new camera, I love it!
The first lights we saw that evening were these beautiful birdcages. They were so simple looking but so calming to be around. They even had speakers hidden around them so you could hear birds tweeting which I loved. Waking up in the summer to the noise of birds tweeting is my favourite!
Next we came across a park which had been set up with a few light displays. I can't remember what the first was called but I feel like it may of been Sun Chime or something like that. It was very hypnotising to watch as the colours rippled across the screen. It also played a very calming yoga type music which again is another one of my favourite sounds so I very much liked that one.
The one directly above was called Brothers and Sisters. I love the photo I got of this one. It just goes to show how much better my new camera is because if I had tried to photograph that on my old one, the colours just would of been a blur. Really happy with how it came out.
Now, no trip is complete for me anymore without visiting my most favourite place in London, Carnaby Street.
Admittedly, Carnaby was nowhere near as beautiful as it was last time I came when all the Christmas displays were still up but it still had a great atmosphere none the less.
We had to at least look in the window of Irregular Choice because come 'on, its a crime not too! Same for the Doc Martens store, fav shoes ever!
After Carnaby, we made our way to Piccadilly Circus, this is another photo I was proud of quality wise but when you think about it, its just a load of ads. Although I do like how I got a shot of it just as 'Choose Happiness' was up there.
I'm not quite sure where we were when I took these but it was heaving with people. These pictures I took are a little out of focus but like I said, the place was bustling. I'm not actually quite sure what these lights were supposed to be. Some said they were elephants, whereas I thought they looked like dragons but the people I was with thought they looked like sperms. I'm still trying to get a really good shot of the moon. I find the moon very mysterious and fascinating and I could never get a good shot on my old camera and it came out as just a white blur. Again the picture is still blurry but its a lot better thanks to the new camera.
I really had to crane my neck looking at these next few as they were on top of buildings. If the people I was with didn't spot them, I never would of done. Although the first one made me feel kinda sick, imagining diving off a building.
These next few, I took while we made our way back to Kings Cross. By then we were very cold and a few snow flakes began to fall. We stopped by Trafalgar Square which was nice because I hadn't been here in years. The fountain was part of the Lumiere Festival with all the bottles lighting up but to be honest with you, it literally looks like rubbish that's been dumped in the fountain. So even though it not the prettiest of light displays, I still think the picture came through really nice.
I didn't really get my camera out much after this as it started to snow/sleet and I didn't want to get it wet. But we had a lovely time at the Lumiere Festival and I would recommend it to everyone, just make sure you wear lots of layers!
Alice
