I'll always be honest here on my blog and I will admit, my main intentions were to go see FVK rather than the main headline themselves since as the FVK boys missed out London on their Bruises tour and I was dying to see them perform the new killer tracks off their latest mini album.
However, I was still pleasantly entertained by all the acts I saw that evening, including Like A Storm, New Years Day and of course main headline, Escape The Fate. These are all great bands and I recommend you check them out if your into the more gothy side of rock music, or if not, you may be pleasantly surprised.
The venue for this gig was the Electric Ballroom up in Camden, literally just by the tube station which was handy as it didn't take long to get there and back at the end of the gig.
I had never been to this venue before which always puts me a lil on edge, but its actually a really lovely venue and its quite spacious inside too.
Being in Camden, theres so much to do while waiting for doors to open. My friend and I went for lunch at Wetherspoons next to the canal and then explored the quirky markets and shops.
As it was February, the weather was bitter and my muscles were all seized up for the next week as I was shivering so much. Remember to take care of yourself while queuing and be sensible. I'm thinking about writing a post on how to survive gig queuing so let me know if you would like that.
The first support act was Like A Storm from the land down under. I had heard their song 'Love The Way You Hate Me' before on a free CD I got with a Rock Sound Magazine a while ago and I was really fond of it so it was great to hear it live. They were the perfect band to start off the show as they had so much energy and a real connection with the crowd which always earns a big thumbs up from me. I also loved how with some songs they had the Didgeridoo out and I've never seen a band do that before, it was really cool to see and hear.
Next up was New Years Day. I was really fond of their 'Epidemic' EP and it was really cool to hear some of those tracks live. They put on a really good performance, although a little eerie at times when the band completely froze for about 2 minutes which I won't lie, was down right creepy.
Unfortunately all my pictures I got from their set are terrible so there's no point showing them but overall, it was a great set and I really enjoyed it.
Time for FVK, it has been soo long since I last saw them and I was so pumped for their performance. It was an amazing set, playing favourite new and old tracks. Although I was sad about how short their set was, they were here to support ETF and it wasn't their own show so I can understand that but I do wish it had of been a tiny bit longer so we could of got to here even more of their new mini-album, I guess we'll have to see what they have in store for their Reading set (which I am buzzing for to the point where I made my self sick with excitement when they got announced but that's another story).
I'll admit, I didn't know any ETF songs so I gave up my space and chilled at the back, as nice as it is partying at the front, sometimes its just nice to relax and really watch and enjoy the show from the back in your own space. Escape The Fate set was really enjoyable despite the technical issues, they didnt let them stop them from putting on an amazing show for their fans!
I was lucky enough to catch up with Shane and Kier after the gig which was lovely. I love how much they appreciate their fans and encourage them to come up for a chat, whereas some bands see that as a hassle. I've got a lot of time and respect for bands like that and its these types who I believe will be more successful and good karma will come to them.
So that pretty much sums up my time at the ETF gig! I had a killer time and it was also great to hang out with my friend Kim at the same time.
I was originally planning for a festival lookbook to be up first but these take a while to make and the weather really isn't coorporating right now, but then I guess bad weather is part of that festival look?!
Since I haven't been able to make this yet, I didn't want to leave you hanging which is why I finally got round to posting this.
My Slam Dunk 2016 blog post will also be up shortly so hang around for that.
